Danilo Asks for Peculiar Tweak of His Juventus Contract

Danilo - Player profile 24/25 | Transfermarkt

Danilo wants Juventus to remove a clause to automatically renew his contract if he plays in 50 percent of the matches this season. His deal expires in June 2025 but with that caveat, Goal reports

The defender has featured in just four tilts so far, starting once. He might believe that the tweak could lead to more minutes. If his wish were granted, his playing time would no longer affect his future.

Danilo can technically star either as a center-back or a right-back under new Juventus coach Thiago Motta. However, he’s not been a top choice in either role. The boss has preferred Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu, who can also man the same two roles, and youngster Nicolò Savona wide.

The Brazilian veteran is set for a natural uptick in minutes considering the Bianconeri just lost linchpin Gleison Bremer for several months because of an ACL tear. On the other hand, he might remain a deputy if the teammates fare well. The veteran reportedly makes €4M per year.

Our Take on Juventus and Danilo

The Old Lady squeezed out Alex Sandro in a similar fashion, although his paltry performances, higher salary, and Andrea Cambiaso’s emergence made it a lot more understandable. Motta doesn’t seem like somebody who pays too much attention to these things while selecting his XI nor lets the officials dictate his choices, but you never know. There’s little downside for the management to comply with his request, as it’d help the team too, which would be freer to make its choice at the end of the season, or perhaps in January.

Juventus will have to be busier than anticipated in January due to a pair of big injuries, but they won’t have a lot to spend. Despite that, the Bianconeri would like to sign players who will be in for the long haul and not just six-month band-aids, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Old Lady could replicate the Pierre Kalulu and Francisco Conceiçao deals. They transferred on initial loans but are likely to stay permanently. The brass is plotting to lean on the desire of players who want to join them. They have done it for several summer acquisitions. Their officials are in touch with a few entourages already.

Juventus will be in the hunt for a defender to replace Gleison Bremer, a deputy striker if Arkadiusz Milik doesn’t return before January, and a dynamic midfielder similar to Weston McKennie. They’ll prioritize footballers already familiar with Serie A and that can handle multiple roles.

The Bianconeri increased their firepower a little by sending Filip Kostic to Fenerbahce after deadline day. They aim to find a new home for Arthur, who could go back to Brazil. Danilo is one to watch due to his beefy salary and reduced role. Moreover, the Old Lady would like to renew the contract of Dusan Vlahovic by the end of 2024, opening up resources.

Our Take on Juventus in January

They weren’t totally complete after the summer, and the injury woes exacerbated that. An elite center-back or right-back is a must, while an extra attacker would be welcome but is a less urgent priority. Cristiano Giuntoli will have to be in his bag again to make the math work.
