David Ornstein: ‘Unbelievable’ Manager Unsure About Joining Southampton….

Danny Rohl is reportedly not prioritising the Southampton job amid receiving interest from clubs across Europe, including in his homeland of Germany.

The Saints have made Rohl one of their top targets to replace Ivan Juric following the Croatian’s sacking in April after relegation was confirmed. He knows the club well from his time spent as an assistant to Ralph Hasenhuttl, but this doesn’t mean he will give the green light on returning to St Mary’s.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that a move to the South Coast club is not guaranteed to be his preferred destination. He is expected to leave Sheffield Wednesday after recently hinting that his future could lie away from Hillsborough.

Rohl stepped up into first-team management after spells as an assistant to Hasenhuttl at Southampton and Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich and Germany’s national team. He was on the Saints’ radar before being made the club’s “top choice” to replace Juric.

The 35-year-old has also caught the attention of Premier League and German-based clubs, and his English midfielder Josh Windass thinks he’s “unbelievable”. The German has been a huge hit at Wednesday, overseeing a turnaround at Hillsborough that included a 12th-place finish in his first full season.

Rohl led the Owls to another mid-place finish this term with 15 wins in 46 games, and a move to St Mary’s could be viewed as a step up.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Danny Rohl is the second-youngest manager in English football’s top four leagues.

If Southampton fail to persuade Rohl to choose them over other suitors, they do have alternatives, including Will Still. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Belgian-born English coach is on the club’s shortlist, and he’s leaving Lens because he wants to return to English shores for “personal reasons”.

Frank Lampard fresh off Coventry City’s heartbreaking Championship play-off to Sunderland, may also be in the mix. It’s said that the Saints “like him”, and the Chelsea icon could be one to keep an eye on.
