‘Done deal’ — Vincent Kompany raids former club Man City as £19 million ace prepares for Burnley move

Burnley are close to agreeing a deal for this Manchester City talent.

Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany is knocking on the door of his old club as he looks to finalise a signing for Burnley this transfer window. The freshly-promoted Clarets will be hoping to continue their run of form when they return to the Premier League next season, but they need some new recruits.

Burnley have been eyeing a move for Man City youth goalkeeper James Trafford, who has been impressing during his international performances for England at the U21 European Championships. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is now a “done deal” and “documents are being prepared.”

The transfer expert has claimed the fee will be in the region of £14 million, plus an extra £5 million in add-ons. A 20 percent sell-on clause has also been included in the agreement.

Trafford’s current deal runs until 2027 and once this move comes to fruition, it will be only his second full-time club. The 20-year-old rose through the ranks of the Man City youth system and enjoyed loan moves to Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers, but has yet to pursue a permanent move.

Kompany is thriving in his current role, having guided Burnley to promotion in his first season with the club. He was appointed manager following their relegation in 2022, and helped them jump straight back up the following season.

The Clarets secured their return to the Premier League with seven matches left in the 2022/23 campaign and they wrapped up the Championship title with a massive 101 points on the board. Their spectacular season tally put Kompany’s Burnley in the top 10 all-time highest points finishes in the Championship.

Pep Guardiola and the Man City stars who played with Kompany before he left in 2019, will undoubtedly be delighted to see him again when the two sides meet this season. But pleasantries will soon be cast aside as the Citizens remain laser-focused on securing their fourth consecutive title and Burnley will hope they won’t be involved in a relegation battle so soon after promotion.
