Millwall are in for an exciting campaign ahead, despite losing former record signing Zian Flemming on a permanent deal to Burnley.

Burnley announced their released and retained list earlier in the week and confirmed that the £7m deal for Zian Flemming was complete after his initial loan from Millwall

Flemming joined the Clarets at the end of the last summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy and played a key role this campaign in helping Burnley finish 2nd and gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Millwall just missed out on the play-offs by two points and finished 8th in the Championship table after a strong second half to the season since the appointment of Alex Neil.

The Lions have come close to making the play-offs on multiple occasions now, and if they can strengthen further in the upcoming transfer window, then there’s no reason why a place in the top six isn’t feasible.

Losing the Dutch attacker could have spelt disaster for Neil’s side, but they adapted well and emerged with new talents through their development squad and scouting network in the transfer window.

Since Neil took charge though, the South London side have been a force to be reckoned with in the Championship and were unlucky not to make the play-offs in the end.

With Mihailo Ivanovic impressing in his debut season and Femi Azeez adapting well, the Lions have some real attacking threat at their disposal and haven’t missed the quality of Flemming in the side. New record signing Camiel Neghli will also be one to watch next season and could put memories of the Dutchman firmly in the past.

Where do the Lions need to strengthen in the upcoming window?
Millwall made eight signings in the January transfer window and will likely aim for at least another six to walk through the door this summer.

Neil will be desperate for reinforcements in all defensive areas, as the South Londoners lacked depth at certain points in the season.

Ultimately, Millwall need to strengthen the majority of positions but have a good enough foundation to build on that whoever they sign will be added to provide competition for places and build a competitive culture at The Den for next season.
