Norwich City: Kellen Fisher wins young player of the season..
Kellen Fisher has been named as Norwich City’s Etty Smith young player of the season for the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
The right-back, who joined the Canaries from non-league Bromley in 2023, has enjoyed a breakout campaign at Carrow Road, making 38 appearances during the Championship season.
Fisher, 20, was also named as runner-up to Josh Sargent in the main player of the season vote – pipping Borja Sainz to third place. The award is given to the outstanding male City player under the age of 21.
The defender follows Jonathan Rowe and Liam Gibbs in claiming the trophy – who claimed the prize in the last two campaigns.
“It means so much to me. I know there’s a lot more meaning behind the award with it being named after Delia’s mother; it makes it that little bit more special,” Fisher told City’s official channels.
“It’s credit to the coaching staff that have helped me get there, and the players and the fans that have pushed me on even more to better myself to try and play a lot more week in, week out.”
The trophy will be presented to Fisher by City’s honorary life presidents Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones before Saturday’s curtain closer against Cardiff at Carrow Road.
His consistency and development has won plaudits throughout the game, with Fisher showing his versatility of being able to play an inverted right-back role as well as maturing the offensive side of his game.
The tough-tackle and energy that have become trademarks of his performances have adhered him to supporters, with Fisher also earning England U21 recognition during this season.
Fisher edged out experienced campaigner Jack Stacey to claim City’s starting right back slot on a consistent basis and has been a standout performer in a disappointing campaign that has ended with a run of one victory in 10.
Injury has ruled Fisher out for the rest of the season, but it has been one of real personal success for the defender.
