Grundy shares his thoughts on manifestation, mindset, and wise sayings.

Brodie Grundy has participated in four finals campaigns and 194 AFL games since making his debut in 2013. The star ruckman won the Copeland Trophy, Collingwood’s Best and Fairest award, in the same year that he was named an All-Australian in 2018 and 2019.

Athletes are successful for a variety of reasons, and Grundy’s early success was largely due to his mentality.

The 29-year-old was questioned about his philosophy on positive affirmations and the practice of manifestation while appearing on ABC’s The Cat and Matt Show.

Grundy answered, “It becomes very difficult if you in your heart don’t believe you’re capable of great things or achieving your goals.”

Highlighting its applicability to football, he offered some advice for aspiring young athletes.

“You have to keep telling yourself that you’re a dog in the fight and that you need to keep supporting yourself when you’re coming through and you’re 18, 19, or 20 [years-old] and you’re playing against senior, mature men.”

Grundy will directly impart this knowledge to the upcoming Sydney ruckmen. In their formative years, two young rucks, Lachlan McAndrew (23), who made his AFL debut in Round 10 of 2023, and Will Green (18), a draftee, will undoubtedly be sponges to everything Grundy has to offer.

AFL Hall of Famer and current Swans Assistant Coach Dean Cox, a man Grundy has previously described as his idol, will teach him a lot as he continues to hone his craft.

On his first day at the team in late January of last year, he spoke with Sydney Swans Media and said:

“I won’t be a flawless, polished product just because I traveled to Sydney. My dedication will always be to keeping trying to improve.

“A major component of that dedication is coming to this side, looking for new opportunities, and keeping evolving as a performer.

With his new fiancé Rachel, whom he proposed to in December, Grundy is now settled in Sydney and taking advantage of everything the city has to offer.

It is lovely. If that makes sense, the climate is very supportive of wellbeing. You jump down and head for an ocean swim at six in the morning. There is a 23 or 24 degree ocean. You’re feeling well, Grundy said.

After their first meetings regarding a potential move, Grundy also shared with ABC listeners the impression the club made on him right away.

“You would not have known the sort of status and hierarchy in that room—it was so personable—there were the big power brokers in there (the room), the Senior Coach, the CEO, and the GM of Football,” Grundy remarked.

It’s a football team that prioritizes its supporters. I hadn’t played any games for the Swans yet, but it already felt really secure.

“Wow, this is a special place,” he and his fiancée Rachel thought as we were leaving the meeting. We followed the wormhole and discovered more about the coach and the principles of the team. We also examined the lifestyle section in greater detail and decided, “Why not?” Life is far too brief. Let’s switch things up.
