In the Tyreek Hill debate, Dolphins coach belittles Randy Moss of the Vikings
Wes Welker, the Dolphins receivers coach and a former teammate of Moss, made his case for Hill.
“Randy is arguably the greatest deep-ball receiver in the history of the sport. However, Tyreek is capable of running the entire route tree, Welker stated at a press conference on November 30. Welker coached Hill in Miami for the previous two seasons. “He is capable of running lookie (two-way goes) and choice (option) routes.” He is able to remove the top. His skills with the ball? entering and exiting breaks. Identify a route on which you dislike [Tyreek]. I am at a loss for ideas.
With an ankle injury, Hill dismissed Welker’s high praise as merely a ruse to get him back to practice in time for the Washington Commanders game in Week 13.
Did he say that? Hill remarked, “Well, I just have to accept the compliment.” “That’s great that your position coach said that, but I think he was just trying to pressure me into practicing.”
In a victory over the Commanders, Hill added two touchdowns and five more receptions for 157 yards, extending his incredible season thus far. Hill is on track to become the first wide receiver to surpass 2,000 yards receiving in a single season with 93 receptions for 1,481 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.
Hill will finish the season with 2,097 receiving yards if he keeps up his 123.3 yards per game average. He will surely be a candidate to become the first wide receiver to win Most Valuable Player.
Despite his exceptional pace and potential Hall of Fame status, Hill would need to continue playing at the same level—which is largely dependent on his speed—through his mid-30s in order to outperform Moss statistically.
Moss is ranked 15th in receptions (982), second in touchdowns (156), and fourth in receiving yards (15,292) all-time. Over his career, Hill has amassed 9,664 receiving yards, 73 touchdowns, and 686 catches.
Hill would not catch up to Moss’ numbers in terms of receptions until he is 33, receiving yards until he is 34, and touchdowns until he is nearly 40 years old if he continued to average 85 catches, 1,208 yards, and nine touchdowns.
Moss’ legacy remains on the Mount Rushmore of NFL wide receivers, and perhaps Hill can make it there one day.
In the meantime, he has a fan in Moss.
Tyreek is a terrific wide receiver, and I like what he brings to the table, Moss stated earlier this season on the “Rich Eisen Show.” “When Steve Smith played, everyone used to comment on how little he was, so it’s encouraging to see someone else step in and take up his role.

Bucs are led by veteran wideouts as they defeat Carolina. Until two crucial plays by Tampa Bay’s seasoned wide receivers late in the game, the game was close and low-scoring. After Carolina took the lead late in the third quarter, Mike Evans broke loose for a 75-yard touchdown reception on the opening play. Chris Godwin increased the Bucs’ lead in the fourth quarter when he was called upon on a third-and-2 in the red zone and turned the corner for a 19-yard touchdown run to tie the score at two points. Evans’ historic night was capped off by a 75-yard reception; with seven catches for 162 receiving yards, he eclipsedthe 1,000-yard mark to increase his record to ten seasons in a row in which he started his career with that accomplishment. Despite being limited to zero catches, Godwin’s deft run proved to be the game-winning play as the Panthers rallied from a one-score deficit. In a soggy first half, Baker Mayfield (14 of 29 passing, 202 yards, touchdown, interception) found it difficult to stay consistent. However, he made few mistakes in crucial situations and deftly pitched the ball to Evans when he wasn’t sure. Tampa Bay ended it in victory formation thanks to a 30-yard run by Rachaad White (84 yards, touchdown).
Panthers fight hard but fade late. After Godwin’s touchdown run, Carolina didn’t give up and responded with an 11-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in Chuba Hubbard’s second touchdown of the game. By rushing to capitalize on the successful two-point conversion to make it a three-point game, Bryce Young added even more intrigue to the proceedings. But the Panthers’ offensive line let them down when they had a chance to steal one away on the road. With 3:31 remaining and two timeouts, Young and company forced a punt and recovered the ball from their own 31-yard line. Following five and four-yard Hubbard runs, CarolinaBut, as Tampa Bay fielded a very green defense on Sunday, hope was never lost because Winfield was still able to make plays on the defensive end, recording a team-high eight tackles, one sack, interception, and three passes defensed.
