Hull City are likely to make a significant signing.
Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, and Hull KR have been the most visible in terms of recruitment ahead of the 2024 Super League season.
But we shouldn’t forget about Hull FC, who have made a number of bold additions.
The great majority have been in the pack, with Herman Ese’ese and Franklin Pele both brought in from the NRL to help out.
They have also signed Liam Tindall from the Leeds Rhinos to replace Huddersfield Giants’ Adam Swift.
But the black and whites aren’t finished yet. According to Adam Pearson, they are about to sign another outside back.
“There’s a couple more to come in that’ll be nine in, six up, so 15 different personalities, a couple of new faces in the backroom team in physio and conditioning and coaching so it’ll feel like a new energy in a new environment and I’m really excited about it,” he said on the club’s website.
“I think that if we can hold our fan base together for one big push this spring and hit the ground running, I think we’ll surprise quite a lot of teams next season.”
Pearson is adamant about changing the league system, as evidenced by the following statements:
“If we’re talking about IMG, we should discuss things like playoff structure.” We have this long season, and then we speed through the playoffs as if we can’t wait to get to the championship game. Let’s make the playoffs more competitive.
“I personally believe it should be a 14-team league, and I believe that the loop fixtures will no longer be an issue, but it is up to IMG to come up with these initiatives.”
“There are small things like golden point. Let’s give each team one point, and whomever wins gets the second. Consider bonus points, as they are used in rugby union.
“There’s nothing that irritates me more than when someone scores a try and then takes a minute to do their hair and wipe their hands.” Make them kick the goal inside a minute, just as in union.
“Six Agains, I’d scrap them. I just don’t think they achieve anything and they lead to too much emphasis and basically allow the referee interfering. I just think it’s wrong, just add a penalty or not and let’s play the game.
“I think there’s little things that IMG could be doing to the game now to improve it while they’re working on the bigger picture of attracting eyeballs and pushing viewing figures up to get better broadcast deals.
“I think somebody needs to be looking at the game and saying there doesn’t need to be three minutes between somebody touching down and kicking off again. Let’s keep the action flowing. Let’s keep supporters engaged. Let’s make the game even better because it is a great game certainly better than Union, but we can make it even stronger.”
