After replacing an injured Ipswich Town player, Leeds United’s star produces two assists in Wales’ triumph.

Dan James, a Leeds United winger, was in action for Wales on Wednesday night.

Wales defeated Gibraltar 4-0 in Wrexham on Wednesday night, with Leeds United forward Dan James coming off the bench to deliver two assists.

James came off the bench to start the game but was called upon after only 15 minutes after Wes Burns was forced off with an injury. He is scheduled to return to Ipswich Town for an evaluation.

The Welsh scored all of their goals in the first half as they returned to the Racecourse Ground for the first time since a win against Trinidad and Tobago in 2019. The game at the home of the League Two club was a sell out, with 10,008 supporters in attendance.

Ben Davies scored first, then Kieffer Moore doubled the lead four minutes later. James then set up Nathan Broadhead, who cut back inside a defender and shot into the top corner after James sent a silky pass into the area.

Moore’s second goal came on the stroke of halftime, when James was put in down the left before cutting back inside and finding Moore at the back post, where he nodded home. It was the first time Wales had won two games in a row in nearly two years, with their previous streak ending in November 2021.

Leeds midfielder Ethan Ampadu was one among the important players resting for the game, as Page focused on their Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia on Sunday.

“The results were not great in June, but it’s how you bounce back and we did that in September with class (winning 2-0 in Latvia),” Page went on to say.

“The setting is fantastic. We’re not going to get carried away with beating Gibraltar, but I see development. My challenge to them was to be clinical, which we accomplished. On Sunday, we must put everything together.

“We chose this team knowing who we’ll face on Sunday. We knew the team we’d pick here from the first minute of camp, and we know the team we’ll pick on Sunday. We’re prepared and can’t wait for the game on Sunday.”
