Celtic prepares for the impact of Matt O’Riley’s desire for Inter LOAN with a transfer guarantee to follow.
Inter Milan wants to LOAN the Celtic star with a purchase obligation, and Matt O’Riley has been linked to a surprise move there.
With nine goals and eight assists in 24 games, the former MK Dons player has elevated his game to new heights this season and been a standout performer for Brendan Rodgers. His performances in the Champions League have caught the attention of clubs abroad. O’Riley has been observed by teams like Aston Villa and West Ham, as he appears to be the next big money player to leave Parkhead.
According to Sky Sports, Serie A powerhouse Inter is now interested in the Denmark international. It is unlikely that Inter will agree to take him permanently; instead, they would prefer to loan him out until the end of the current campaign. Since January is a tough window to conduct significant business in and Rodgers needs strikers, losing O’Riley without a sizable fee being banked right away would seem to be a non-starter.
The Hoops would also have to work quickly to find a substitute. Despite having money and time on their hands in the summer, they failed to adequately replace the Portuguese after earning £25 million for Jota in the summer.
The necessity of quality in the next window has been Rodgers’ guiding principle. Losing O’Riley would make his starting lineup even weaker, and if the summer transfer window is any indication, supporters shouldn’t hold out much hope for a comparable acquisition to make up for his probable departure.
