With a late goal from Wyatt Johnston, the Stars defeat the Golden Knights 3-2 to close the series deficit to 2-1.
LAS VEGAS: On Saturday night, the Dallas Stars defeated Vegas 3-2 thanks to a goal from Wyatt Johnston in overtime, reducing the lead of the defending champion Golden Knights in the series to 2-1.
Eight shots on goal for the team went to Johnston, who dragged the puck down the left side to the goal line. 16:23 into the extra period, he pulled goalie Logan Thompson low and beat him with a high shot.
Regarding the 20-year-old forward, Dallas coach Peter DeBoer remarked, “What a player.” It’s unbelievable that he is still unable to enter a casino and play cards because he is too young.
“A truly amazing performance by one of this league’s great young players, the stars of the future.” For a child under the age of twenty-one to be on the ice with that caliber of play and look like he did all night, I thought he was just amazing tonight.
Johnston, who was arguably Dallas’ best player, tied a career high with his shots on goal.
Johnston stated, “You don’t want to lose 3-0 to the reigning Stanley Cup champions.” Therefore, I believe it’s that desperation showing through and ensuring that we’re carrying out all of the things that lead to our success.
On Saturday night in Las Vegas, the Dallas Stars defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in Game 3 of their Western Conference first-round series thanks to a goal from Wyatt Johnston at 16:23 of overtime. For the game-winning goal and his second of the contest, Johnston roofed a sharply angled wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle over Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson’s left shoulder. “I attempted a few shots low, but it didn’t work, so I thought I’d try throwing one up high, and fortunately it did,” Johnston remarked.
Dallas still trails the best-of-seven series 2-1 despite goals and two assists from Miro Heiskanen and two more from Jason Robertson. In the end, Jake Oettinger made 32 saves. In Las Vegas on Monday night is Game 4. “Three games in a row against the best team in our conference is a difficult task,” Knights captain Mark Stone remarked. As we approach Monday night, we’re still in a strong position. All we need to do is play our best game at last.” With a goal and an assist from Brayden McNabb and a short-handed goal from Jack Eichel, Vegas ended a six-game winning streak against the Stars. With 43 saves, including four breakaways in the second period alone, Thompson matched his career high.
Johnston scored his first goal of the playoffs in the opening period, backhanding in a rebound from in front of the net to give Dallas a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half, Heiskanen finished an odd-man rush with a wrist shot that caromed in off the left post to make it 2-0. Dallas outshot the Golden Knights 30 to 10, dominating the first 30 minutes of play. However, Thompson stopped Tyler Sequin twice on breakaways in the second quarter to keep Vegas in the game. Later in the period, the Golden Knights came back to tie the score with two goals in a 3:10 span.

“We excavated a hole for ourselves, which we managed to escape from, but it required a significant amount of energy to do so,” Stone remarked. “It’s evident that the goalie held us in the game for the first thirty-five minutes until we scored the 2-1 goal.” At 10:40, McNabb scored his second goal of the postseason, a wrist shot past Oettinger’s blocker side and from the top of the right circle. At 13:50, Eichel scored a short-handed goal to cap off a two-on-one rush and beat Oettinger’s blocker side with a wrist shot. reading
