Nick Gallo, a tight end for Virginia Tech football, plans to return in 2024.
The veteran tight end was injured in 2023.
For Brent Pry, the football coach at Virginia Tech, the good news keeps coming. Senior tight end Nick Gallo gave Virginia Tech’s 2024 offense a lift on Monday by announcing he would be staying in Blacksburg for another season.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound native of Richboro, Pennsylvania missed the 2023 campaign due to a knee injury sustained in August during fall training. Gallo was expected to return to the starting lineup at tight end, but his knee injury made sophomore Dae’Quan Wright the starting tight end for Vermont. Wright played well for the Hokies this season, but in November, he registered through the NCAA transfer portal.
Benji Gosnell, Harrison Saint Germain, and Zeke Wimbush are among the young tight ends Pry likes to watch, but there was talk in the portal that the Hokies were searching for a veteran. Pry also knew that there was a strong possibility Gallo would make a comeback in 2024.
Gallo will be in his sixth season in Blacksburg in 2024. Gallo joined the Hokies in 2019 and has made 46 appearances in his career, including 27 starts. He has one touchdown and 469 yards from 55 receptions.
As a reliable blocker, Gallo will provide the Hokies another option when matching up with Gosnell and Saint Germain, who both anticipate having a busy schedule in the upcoming campaign. Germain and Gosnell scored on a touchdown pass in Virginia Tech’s victory over Tulane in the Military Bowl.
