Cowboys Name Former Head Coach of the Vikings to Serve as New Defensive Coordinator

Thursday, February 8th, marked a trip down memory lane for the Dallas Cowboys as they appointed Mike Zimmer, the former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, to oversee their defence for the second time in his NFL career. The news was first announced on social media on Thursday night by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Pelissero stated, “Sources say Mike Zimmer will be hired by the #Cowboys to be their defensive coordinator.” “Zimmer, 67, has been a respected defensive specialist for a long time and is the third-winningest coach in Vikings history. A significant addition to Dallas, where Zimmer served as coach from 1994 to 2006.

Dan Quinn, the former defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, left the team after a disappointing playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in January to take on a head coaching role with the Washington Commanders. Zimmer will succeed Quinn.
