Pundit responds to Celtic’s ‘crisis’ allegation following Hearts’ stunning league victory over them.
In the Scottish Premiership, Hearts defeated Celtic for the second time in a row this past weekend.
After shocking leaders in the Scottish Premiership and defending champions Celtic on their home field over the weekend, Hearts supporters will undoubtedly still be rejoicing. Brendan Rodgers’ team suffered their second straight league loss as the Jambos defeated them with a commanding three-point lead.
Hearts bounced back from their previous two consecutive defeats to Rangers and Aberdeen, respectively, with a big three points thanks to goals from Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley.
After a dismal Champions League campaign, the Jambos compounded Celtic’s recent frustrations. The team led by Brendan Rodgers was eliminated from the competition last month after losing to Lazio 2-0. Despite finishing the season on a positive note—their first Champions League home victory since 2013—the Hoops have recently faced criticism.
Chris Sutton, a former Celtic, is adamant that the Hoops shouldn’t be worrying about anything right now after their loss to Hearts. He recently called the Scottish champions a “crisis club” in an interview with Robbie Savage on BBC Radio 5.
Celtics crisis club? Despite being the league leaders, Celtic supporters will point the finger at the board for their team’s lackluster performance today, according to all accounts. They can point the finger at the fact that some Celtic supporters are still not permitted inside Celtic Park,” Sutton thought.
“But Brendan Rodgers must undoubtedly shoulder some of the blame. He has returned; Angeball was the player of the previous season, but Brendan must take the blame for the significant decline in performance this time around.”
With a five-point advantage over Rangers, Celtic will still top the table regardless of the outcome. Hearts, meanwhile, are leading the quartet vying for third position; Hibs, Kilmarnock, and St. Mirren will all be vying for position over the next few weeks. The Jambos’ next game is their pre-Christmas match at Tynecastle Park against St Mirren.
