Burnley ready final bid to beat West Ham United to signing of Chelsea ace Ian Maatsen
Burnley are set to make a final bid to beat West Ham to the signing of Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon on 29 August that the Clarets boss Vincent Kompany is desperate to land either a loan or permanent deal for the 21-year-old left-back after he spent last season on loan at Turf Moor.
He said the Hammers are also keen on bringing in the Dutchman in a move that would allow Aaron Cresswell to leave the London Stadium this summer.
Go for it
There is no time for West Ham to mess around with this one if they want to sign Maatsen as there has been plenty of interest in him this summer.
Although Burnley may have an edge in one sense after he played for them in the Championship last season, it’s likely that the Irons’ qualification for European football could help in their bid to land him.
But with just a few days left of the transfer window, there isn’t much time left if they want to get a deal done and allow Cresswell to be granted his wish and complete a move away from East London.
The Dutchman would be a progressive signing as he is still only young and has shown a lot of potential while out on loan from the Blues, with options needed ahead of what will, hopefully, be another long, successful season in Europe.
It’s unclear whether or not Chelsea will be willing to let him go just yet, but if they are presented with the right offer, then they could be persuaded into doing a deal as they look to balance the books following their latest spending spree.
In other West Ham news, the club are under pressure to secure the signing of their top target.
