West Ham now in pole position to sign ‘fantastic’ £26m midfielder to replace Lucas Paqueta

West Ham United reportedly could be in pole position in the race for Udinese ace Lazar Samardzic this summer.

According to a report from Inter Live, West Ham are ‘first and foremost’ the club most likely to sign Lazar Samardzic in the summer transfer window, after the 21-year-old’s move to Inter Milan collapsed.

Hammers manager David Moyes is desperately looking for some top-class attacking midfield talent to come into the London Stadium this summer, with Lucas Paqueta being eyed up by Manchester City.

Samardzic was said to be a target for the West Ham boss just a few days ago.

And now it seems like the Hammers are actually in pole position for the Serbia international’s signature this summer…

Inter Live reckon that the Hammers are the club most likely to sign the supremely talented young Serbian ace this summer.

And what a superb addition he will be for West Ham, if Moyes does in fact manage to bring him to the London Stadium.

The Serbian can operate as an orthodox midfielder or in the number 10 position. He possesses exceptional technical ability and has a hard work ethic as well – a prerequisite for someone who wants to play under Moyes.

At youth level, Samardzic bagged 55 goals and 23 assists in 57 games. Since moving into the senior ranks at Udinese, he has seven goals and seven assists to his name in 63 outings (Transfermarkt).

Sempre Inter claim that the Serie A side want around €30 million (£26 million) for the midfielder. That sounds like very good value indeed for me.

And if West Ham manage to sign Lazar Samardzic from Udinese for that kind of fee this summer, I think we’ll be in a very strong position going forward, with or without Paqueta.

The only concern will be that he might not be able to adjust to Premier League football quickly. Only time will tell with that though, and sometimes you’ve just got to take risks.
