Chelsea can save £80m with Moises Caicedo transfer alternative at Leeds United
Chelsea transfer news: The Blues appear to have found an alternative to Moises Caicedo in Leeds United and USMNT midfielder Tyl
Chelsea have outlined Leeds United and USMNT international midfielder Tyler Adams as a transfer target this summer, according to a report from The Athletic.
The 24-year-old was a key player for the Yorkshire side last season, but injury in the latter half of the campaign came at a difficult time as they ended up finishing in the bottom three and were relegated to the Championship. That has led to a host of players leaving the club this summer, but Adams remains for now.
The report claims that the USMNT star has a release clause in his contract that would let him leave for just £20million if the side are relegated. That could see one team bag a bargain if they are willing to trigger the clause, with the Blues considering the possibility of doing so.
It comes as the west London outfit have looked to overhaul their midfield ranks, but with a host of exits, Mauricio Pochettino has few options at his disposal. Just Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher remain as first-team senior players in the central ranks, with the rest being younger and more inexperienced.
football.london understands that Moises Caicedo has been the priority target this summer, but the most recent offer to Brighton has been rejected at £80million. The Seagulls are believed to be holding out for closer to £100million, given recent young midfield sales in the market and the fact they hold a long-term contract for the youngster.
With the Premier League season just over one week away, Chelsea will hope to have most of their business wrapped up as soon as possible. Caicedo talks may be complicated and drag on for longer, however with Adams there would simply be the triggering of the release clause and personal terms to discuss.
It remains to be seen which option the recruitment team will opt for in the weeks of the window to come, but they are reaching a critical moment to decide.
