Leeds United are ready to match Everton’s offer of a pay hike to West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek according to Claret & Hugh.

Leeds United are still fighting for promotion on the pitch but the LUFC hierarchy are gearing up for the summer transfer window.

The Whites need to be prepared for the window and they’re planning for two different scenarios as a result. They have potential recruits in mind for if they return to the Premier League but are also making sure they’re prepared for a potential failed promotion bid.

It means that while Daniel Farke, his coaching staff and players have been laser focused on on-pitch matters, there has been speculation over potential transfer targets too.

One man linked with Leeds United has been West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek, and new claims over the potential swoop have emerged from Claret & Hugh.

They state that amid tentative enquires over his situation, Soucek could be offered a pay rise away from the London Stadium. Everton are keen and are ‘ready’ to offer him £30,000-per-week more than he is currently on in East London, and LUFC would be prepared to match that offer.

Soucek has two years left on his Hammers contract and is happy with the club, but seeks clarity over his long-term future.

While it remains to be seen if the Soucek speculation comes to anything, he would be a smart target for Leeds United.

He’d only be a feasible signing if promoted of course, and signing from a Premier League rival would come at a cost. However, the Whites would be getting a proven player at the level.

Soucek has played 238 times for West Ham since joining five years Aho, chipping in with 39 goals and 13 assists from midfield. He’s a dangerous presence in the box and a physical one too.

His ability to play as an attacking, central or defensive midfielder would make him a flexible addition to Farke’s ranks too.

Although targets are being weighed up, Leeds United have all their eggs in the promotion basket at the moment.

LUFC have slipped up over the past five games, recording just one win. It has seen them relinquish top spot and move level on points with Burnley, who sit 3rd and outside the automatic promotion spots.

No one at Elland Road will want to go through the play-offs again, even if they feel they are better placed to emerge victorious. A return to winning ways is a must as they head to Luton Town this weekend.
