Phidarian Mathis, DT for the Washington Commanders, is returning to practice – Tracker
The Washington Commanders have announced that DT Phidarian Mathis will return to practice within the next 21 days.
OCT 25 WASHINGTON COMMANDERS START THE CLOCK ON DEFENSIVE lineman Phidarian Mathis, a 2022 second-round NFL Draft choice and defensive lineman, has missed every game this season due to a calf injury.
The organization stated on Wednesday that it has created a 21-day window for Mathis to return from injured reserve and that practice will resume this week.
There have been multiple instances in the past where a player has returned to practice and the active roster in the same week, so Mathis has a chance to play for the Commanders this weekend when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.
THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES MADE A TRADE FOR ALL-PRO SAFETY ON OCT 23. On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles’ already formidable defense improved even further.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Eagles (6-1) traded a fifth and sixth-round pick as well as Terrell Edmunds for Tennessee Titans All-Pro safety Kevin Byard.
Byard is a two-time first-team All-Pro who has appeared in two Pro Bowls. With 47 tackles this season, he was third on the Titans.
The last time the Eagles made a trade with the Titans, they received All-Pro receiver A.J. Brown in a move that appears to be getting better for Philadelphia and more perplexing with each passing game. If Byard has anything like Brown’s impact, the rest of the league may be in even more trouble.
Byard will make his Eagles debut against the Washington Commanders on Sunday at 1 p.m. at FedEx Field.
OCT 18 NFC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR JAMISON CROWDER After his effort in the Washington Commanders’ 24-16 triumph over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Jamison Crowder was voted the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Crowder’s 61-yard punt return put the Washington offense on the Falcons’ 11-yard line. Washington took a 10-7 lead three plays later on a one-yard touchdown pass from Sam Howell to Antonio Gibson, and they didn’t trail the remainder of the game.
“That was huge,” Howell said about Crowder’s punt return. “Whenever you can get sparks from defense or special teams, it definitely helps the offense.”
Crowder also received the award in 2016 for his performance in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens, which included an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Crowder’s 61-yard punt return against the Falcons was the longest in the NFC this season, and it was the third time he had one of more than 50 yards.
OCT 18 ROGER’S NEW OFFERS Over the course of his 15 years as NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell has helped the owners make a fortune. And he’s now officially increasing his riches.
According to business reporter Daniel Kaplan, Goodell’s contract renewal has been “signed and finalized.”
Goodell’s annual pay has traditionally been estimated to be around $40 million. However, many believe that when all of his profits as NFL commissioner are added together, his total earnings as commissioner will be in the $700 million level.
