Before Aaron Nola re-signed with the Phillies, the Braves pursued him.

The Atlanta Braves have confirmed that they are pursuing Aaron Nola, starting pitcher, according to general manager Alex Anthopoulos.

In a recent, candid interview, general manager of the Atlanta Braves Alex Anthopoulos acknowledged that the team had attempted to acquire starting pitcher Aaron Nola, who later re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, and that the team had also pursued a trade involving a different starting pitcher but had ultimately decided against it.

According to Jeff Schultz of The Athletic, Alex Anthopoulos stated, “We pursued Aaron Nola.” “On top of that, we’ve contacted clubs and made trade inquiries. We didn’t need to trade away key players from our roster in order to make room for the starters who were moved, and one in particular. We had the prospects to proceed with the deal, but we decided against it because it would have been prospect-based. Of course, in three, four, or five years, we’ll know if that was the right decision. It’s comparable to the times when prospects like Michael Harris and Spencer Strider were held, and we’re happy we did. Judging is difficult because you’re attempting to predict what guys will be like. I have chosen to say no thus far.

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow. If the pitcher Anthopoulos was referring to was Tyler Glasnow, then his remarks would make sense.

The Braves are obviously in need of some pitching assistance. This offseason, they might still get that. In a trade with the Chicago White Sox, the Braves have reportedly expressed interest in Dylan Cease. Additionally, it’s possible that the Corbin Burnes will be traded this offseason.

Is Anthopoulos going to offer the prospects the chance to acquire Corbin Burnes or Dylan Cease? We’ll find out in time. It is likely that he declined to do it for Glasnow.
