‘Here We Go!’: Journalist Drops Big Update Out Of Everton With ‘Intelligent Footballer’ To Leave Medical Later Today
Fulham are likely to complete a significant deadline-day acquisition after agreeing a fee of £22 million plus add-ons with Everton for midfielder Alex Iwobi, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Alex Iwobi Is Set to Leave Everton More Firepower Required at Everton
The Toffees have had a difficult start to the season, losing their first three Premier League games. The club nearly survived relegation last season, and their lack of scoring in the first three league games has prompted pre-season expectations of another difficult year ahead.
In reaction to the dearth of goals, Sean Dyche has signed strikers Beto from Udinese and Chermiti from Sporting CP on loan, as well as secured loan agreements for Leeds’ Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma from Villareal. There are reports that the Merseyside club is interested in signing Leeds midfielder Luis Sinisterra, and in order to fund future incomings, outgoings must be made.
‘Here We Go’: Iwobi Joins Fulham
According to Romano, the former Arsenal player will get a physical in London today ahead of a deadline-day switch to Craven Cottage. Over the last three seasons, the 27-year-old has remade himself, moving from winger to progressive center midfielder.
Despite the club’s recent struggles, the Nigeria international has been one of Everton’s top performers, and he drew special appreciation from former manager Frank Lampard last season after another excellent performance in a defeat against Chelsea. Lampard told the club’s official website, “The benefits of Alex were very clear early in my days of getting here.”
“He’s versatile because of his qualities, but also because of his humility.” He does anything you ask of him, and he does it really well.
“He’s a smart footballer.” When I was thinking about shifting him to center midfield, I asked him about his previous positions. He basically named almost every position on the field! He’s done everything.”
Midfield Still Has Unanswered Questions
The departure of Iwobi raises concerns about the club’s present options in the middle of the field. Amadou Onana is the standout player in this position, with Abdoulaye Doucoure establishing his worth by scoring some crucial goals to help Everton avoid relegation at the end of the previous season. If Everton are to have a good season, Idrissa Gueye and James Garner will have to step up to fill the Iwobi-shaped void.
