Paris Maghoma, on loan from Brentford, has been injured for Bolton Wanderers.

WANDERERS’ worrying injury list has lengthened further with the news that Paris Maghoma will be out of action until mid-October with a thigh injury.

The on-loan Brentford midfielder missed Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Reading and scans have now confirmed that he will be side-lined for at least a couple of weeks.

Maghoma is likely to miss home games against Peterborough United and Stevenage and the trip to Port Vale in League One, plus the visit of Manchester United’s Under-21s in the EFL Trophy next Tuesday.

Ian Evatt admitted he could not risk Maghoma playing on with the injury and risk losing him for months.

“Paris has a thigh injury, classed as a 2C, so it is one of those things which is significant enough to keep him out for two or three weeks,” he told The Bolton News.

“The more we push him or go with it, the more it has the potential of being a really nasty tear and we don’t want that.

“He pulled out of training this week and we are just going to have to try and get him back as soon as we can.”

Wanderers return to the training ground this morning still licking their wounds from a disappointing late collapse at Reading, which saw them blow a 1-0 lead – and first place in the table – in the final 13 minutes.

A shoulder injury to top-scorer, Dion Charles, is still being assessed and it is not known whether he will be able to face Peterborough this weekend.

Evatt came under fire for the lack of impact his substitutes made against Reading but the Bolton boss has defended the decision to make changes from the bench late in the game. And now, with injuries stacking up, the Bolton boss is looking towards those same players to show they are worth a start in the coming weeks.

“We absolutely need more from them,” he told The Bolton News. “Those substitutions should not have affected anything we were doing.

“Randell (Williams) just looked very tired, fatigued, it was hot out there and a lot of hard work, particularly for the wing-backs, doing the distances we required them to do.

“We were 1-0 up and bringing on a defender to see the game through, obviously that is logical.

“Bringing Victor (Adeboyejo) off – we had asked the forwards to press from the front because we didn’t want Reading to gain any momentum and I felt we looked like we needed a bit of experience and legs up there, and Cameron (Jerome) offers us that.

“We do need more from the entire squad – but there is nobody more disappointed than us, everyone, me included, that we didn’t get a result.

“I think we can all admit that you cannot get away with creating as many chances as we did and still not winning a game. It just shouldn’t happen.”
