Following the stalemate with Hull, Coventry City’s manager delivers an injury update on Ben Sheaf.
Coventry City injury update from CoventryLive, with Sky Blues manager Mark Robins explaining Ben Sheaf’s absence vs Hull.
Coventry City will be without important midfielder Ben Sheaf for at least a couple of weeks after injuring his groin in training.
The Sky Blues player pulled up at Ryton on Thursday during the squad’s Hull preparation session, leaving the 25-year-old to miss Friday night’s 1-1 draw at the MKM Stadium.
In his absence, skipper Liam Kelly filled in alongside Josh Eccles and looks to be in line for a run in the side while Sheaf heals.
When asked what the player had done, Mark Robins responded, “He strained his groin.” It’s an adductor (a muscle group in the inside thigh), and he’ll be out for an unknown amount of time. I’d guess it’ll be at least a couple of weeks.”
Kelly commented on his first Championship start of the season, saying, “I thought he did pretty well.” To be fair, he was all over the place at times, but he was higher up the field and almost stole one as they tried to play out. We got back in, and as the referee blew up for a foul, we got back in and then slipped.
“The players said the pitch was really firm and greasy, which meant it was a little bit slippy, so the footwear had to be right because that was an opportunity to score and unfortunately we just didn’t take that second one, which cost us because of the weight of the ball that they used.”
City took the lead in the first half thanks to a header from a corner by Joel Latibeaudiere, but were pegged back three minutes later when Aaron Connolly flicked a header into the far corner.
