Frustration and an Injury Update from Washington Commanders All-Pro
The Washington Commanders suffered more losses than only the game against the New York Giants, as All-Pro special teamer Jeremy Reaves confirmed he will have season-ending surgery.
EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY — During the Washington Commanders’ 14-7 loss against the New York Giants in Week 7, there were a lot of people cheering them on.
However, none of them were more engaged than safety Jeremy Reaves, who was watching his Commanders battle to their fourth loss of the season while recovering from an injury that left him on injured reserve.
And now, as Reaves acknowledged on Sunday night, that knee injury will keep him out for the rest of the season.
“Everything revolves around reflection…One thing I’ve discovered on my journey is that the mountain has two sides. “Getting to the top of one just means there’s another climb to a higher peak,” Reaves explained on social media. “I’ll be having surgery tomorrow morning, and this year will sadly be cut short for me, but I’m grateful!” The Lord has gifted me with an incredible support system, teammates, and the determination to persevere even after defeat! One thing about me is that I’ve had to climb more than I’ve had moments at the summit. This isn’t anything new!”
Reaves also praised supporters for their continued support as he fought with the injuries and rose to become one of the team’s favorite players.
Reaves, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, takes pleasure in being a player who has earned every second he’s spent on the field.
Last season, he was named to the special teams Pro Bowl and was named First-Team All-Pro, both firsts in his career.
This season, he added another first by being elected team captain by his teammates.
Despite the latest dismal setback, Reaves spent part of Friday evening pleading with fans to be more supportive and less judgmental of his Washington colleagues.
“Negative reactions to everything don’t create positive reactions,” Reaves responded to criticism. “Just doesn’t work like that.”
With his season unofficially but effectively finished, Reaves will now embark on a lengthy recovery procedure in the hopes of returning to the NFL field in 2024.
However, with only a one-year contract entering the season, his following season may not be spent with the Commanders depending on a variety of things, including how the rest of the season plays out.
Three straight NFC East Divisional losses and a 3-5 record midway through the season don’t bode well for anyone’s future in Washington, and with the 6-1 Philadelphia Eagles coming in next weekend, three straight NFC East Divisional losses and a 3-5 record could mean more than just Reaves’ season is over.
