Anthony Dell’Orso has joined the Arizona men’s basketball team as a transfer. He will have two years left of eligibility, beginning with the 2024–2025 campaign. Tommy Lloyd, the head coach of the program, made the announcement. Prior to this, Dell’Orso was named to Campbell University’s Second Team All-CAA in 2023–2024 and won the Big South Freshman of the Year award for the Camels in 2023.
“Over the past two seasons at Campbell, Anthony has demonstrated his versatile skill set, helping him earn all-conference honors each year,” Lloyd said. “He can get to the free throw line and make excellent free throws. He has been a productive scorer in college, both inside and outside the 3-point line. We are excited for him to become a part of the Arizona Basketball family and advance his skills in preparation for his next basketball endeavors.”
Originating in Melbourne, Australia, Dell’Orso had one of the most productive offensive seasons in the nation in 2023–24. In route to averaging 19.5 points per game, he shot 49.25 overall, 38.0% from three-point range, and 80.9% on 157 trips to the free throw line. Just four other players in the nation, Mark Sears of Alabama, Antonio Reeves of Kentucky, Ajay Mitchell of UCSB, and Chaz Lanier of North Florida, accomplished those stats the previous season.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard was the youngest player to be named to the first or second team of the Coastal Athletic Association. He started 31 out of 32 games for the Camels in 2023–24. He not only led the team in scoring but also in rebounds per game (6.5) and steals (51). His 624 points for the season are sixth most in Campbell University history, and his 21.9 points per game in CAA play ranked third in the conference.
Among Dell’Orso’s single-game highlights are three 30-point performances, the most notable of which was a 35-point explosion against East Carolina. In addition, he scored 31 points at Monmouth and 34 points against UNC Wilmington, adding seven double-doubles to his total.
After winning conference freshman of the week five times in the 2022–2023 season, Dell’Orso was named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Year. He led all Big South freshmen in scoring (12.5 points per game), grabbed 5.8 rebounds, and made 48.7% of his free throws. Following his game-winning basket in the semifinals against Radford, he scored in double figures 22 times and guided the Camels to the Big South Conference tournament championship game.
Prior to attending college, Dell’Orso played for the Victoria U20 state team in 2022. As a senior at Marcellin in Australia, he averaged 30 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three steals, winning MVP honors. He averaged 16.5 points, five rebounds, and three steals during the Australian Junior Championships.
