The Broncos are making a mistake, according to NFL numbers guru, if they cut Russell Wilson.

LAS VEGAS: According to veteran DVOA and NFL statistics expert Aaron Schatz, Russell Wilson was better than the movie showed.

For this reason, if he were in charge of the Broncos, he would know exactly what to do.

“Don’t swallow all that money on my cap; keep Russell Wilson!” Schatz stated on Thursday during his visit to Radio Row for Super Bowl LVIII.

Having said that, it’s not a practical or reasonable choice.

It’s evident that bridges have been destroyed. “He is not returning,” Schatz declared. They’ll work out a plan to get him released. It’s going to be a massively successful swallowed cap. However, it’s evident that personality factors are at play.

Williamson Russell and the figures
Schatz was a co-founder of Football Outsiders, a company whose team-based defensive-adjusted value over average (DVOA) metrics have grown to be among the most important resources for sports statistics. Now available at FTNFantasy.com/DVOA are those rankings.

Wilson’s individual DVOA reveals are inconsistent.

Russell Wilson was ranked 24th out of 36 quarterbacks with at least 200 attempts last season in terms of individual passing DVOA. However, Wilson was seventh out of 33 quarterbacks with at least 20 attempts in terms of rushing DVOA. When you combine those, you get a quarterback who was mediocre.

This is also evident in his success rate (20th out of 30) and EPA (expected points added) per play (18th out of 30 eligible quarterbacks). Wilson came in 25th and 29th place in those categories in 2022, respectively.

That demonstrates his significant progress with Sean Payton.

Schatz remarked, “I mean, I thought he was better than people thought he was.” “The numbers don’t reflect how depressing people thought they would. His poor performances appear to have been scheduled for national television.

But wait…

It’s obvious that they’re moving on, so it really doesn’t matter what I think about. Thus, we can discuss whether Russell Wilson lived up to the hype or not. It is irrelevant. Schatz declared, “They’re not keeping him.”

“They are proceeding to the subsequent item. I simply have no idea what will happen next.

And if the Broncos cut Wilson with a post-June 1 designation, they could have to pay a huge dead-money charge of more than $80 million over two years, which means the “next thing” isn’t necessarily better and the Broncos will have to pay more at the quarterback position.

Maybe you get someone to look after you, like Ryan Tannehill or something. Is that truly an improvement over Russell Wilson? Schatz remarked, “I mean, the highs and lows aren’t as high and low. “Well, that’s good—not only are the highs lower, but the lows are also lower.

And although he occasionally makes mistakes, Russell Wilson performs better overall than Ryan Tannehill. The strange thing is that I believe I would just give Wilson another year.

However, there doesn’t seem to be any momentum for that to occur.
