Aston Villa £8m signing now a free agent after release from Premier League club…
One of Aston Villa’s former major signings has been released by his club ahead of the summer transfer window.
Everton have confirmed their retained and released list for players whose contracts expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, including a former Aston Villa favourite.
The Toffees, who recently said their final farewells to Goodison Park with a 2-0 victory over Southampton, have announced that backup goalkeeping duo Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia will be leaving the club on June 30. More importantly, veteran right wing-back Ashley Young won’t be renewing his contract and will become a free agent this summer.
Young joined the Blues in July 2023 and has been a valuable asset throughout two tough seasons, both of which have included relegation concerns. The 39-year-old, who has displayed great versatility with many roles in the squad, has made 69 appearances for Everton across all competitions and could reach 70 on the final day away at Newcastle United.
Reacting to Young’s departure, Toffees manager David Moyes said: “Since my return to the club, I’ve seen what a great professional Ash is and know the leadership qualities he has brought to the squad during his time at Everton. His versatility, experience and know-how have also been really beneficial to the team and me.”
Aston Villa to launch ‘huge offensive’ for signing – Player set for summer exit Villans need €30m..
Aston Villa are eyeing a move for RC Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra in the summer window, according to claims from France.
Diarra operated both in the middle of the pitch and as an attacking midfielder this season, managing four goals and five assists from 33 games.
The 21-year-old has caught Aston Villa’s attention as Unai Emery is looking to strengthen the attacking midfield position ahead of next season.
That’s according to Ouest-France, who state the midfielder is unlikely to continue with the Ligue 1 club. They are owned by BlueCo, who also own Chelsea.
The French club are aiming for him to be their biggest sale in the summer and would need around €30m to sanction his sale. They are waiting to find out whether Chelsea will make an approach for the Senegal international.
As well as Aston Villa, the midfielder has attracted Eintracht Frankfurt’s interest. The report adds they sent a €17.5m proposal but the player doesn’t see Germany as ideal for his development.
French journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state Aston Villa are to launch a ‘huge offensive’ for Diarra. That’s all he has to say about Unai Emery’s side.
Four days ago, Wiw Sport reported Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion are in the picture to sign the Senegalese midfielder.
