Leeds United might sign a free agent after a surprise call-up to the national team.
The newest Leeds United news includes a former target being available and a current Whites player being projected for international recognition.
Leeds United may be given the opportunity to sign a former transfer target on a free transfer in the coming weeks.
During the January transfer window, the Whites were connected with a move for Philadelphia Union’s German defender Kai Wagner as they attempted to strengthen their roster in order to stay in the Premier League.
Despite the interest, Wagner stayed with the MLS team, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions. Despite that performance, The Athletic reports that the full-back is ‘likely’ to quit the Union after contract negotiations fell through.
Wagner will become a free agent in the coming weeks and is thought to be attracting interest from Greek club AEK Athens, coached by former Union head coach Matias Almeyda.
Whites star expected to earn surprise England call-up
Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Whites youngster Archie Gray will’make significant steps’ over the next year, putting him in contention for a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
The 17-year-old midfielder has represented the Three Lions at many youth levels and made his Under-19s debut last week in a goalless draw against Montenegro in a European Championship qualifier.
Gray, who is also eligible to represent Scotland at senior level, has found an admirer in Robinson, and he believes that working under Whites boss Daniel Farke will help him get closer to senior caps in the coming years.
“My dark horse for the Euros squad, a real outsider from me, somebody I’ve watched regularly at Leeds United, Archie Gray,” the former Whites keeper told BBC Five Live. Has not yet played for England at the under-21 level, but has represented England at every level up to the under-19s.
“He’s a regular for Daniel Farke in the Leeds side this year, and I expect him to make great strides in the next 12/18 months.”
