LUTON SIGN GOALKEEPER TIM KRUL FROM NORWICH CITY
Luton Town have announced the signing of experienced goalkeeper Tim Krul from Norwich City.
The 35-year-old Dutch international has signed a deal of undisclosed length to return to the Premier League, having previously played for Newcastle, Brighton and the Canaries.
Krul is Luton’s 10th new signing ahead of their Premier League campaign, and the second goalkeeper following the previous arrival of Thomas Kaminski.
Neither club has specified if a fee was involved.
In his arrival interview on the Luton Town website, Krul he was delighted to make the move, having been sold by a chat with his former Norwich teammate Carlton Morris.
He said, “The story of Luton Town speaks for itself, the last nine years has been an amazing journey and I’m excited to join that journey. It’s been a whirlwind for the club; I spoke to Carlton Morris and he spoke very highly about what’s happening at this club.
“I know Thomas Kaminski as well, it’s good to speak a bit of Dutch Flemish to him. It’s so important to have competition for places, if you look at the Premier League teams, they have lots of competition for spots and it should be no different here.”
Krul first moved to England as a teenager in 2005 when he joined Newcastle United, and he would succeed Steve Harper as the club’s number one goalkeeper in 2011, making 184 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies, including being an ever present when Newcastle finished 5th in the 2011/12 Premier League.
The goalkeeper would leave Newcastle in 2017 after loan spells with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, and after a year with Brighton, he joined Norwich in 2018, before becoming a first-choice with the Canaries. He made 169 appearances for Norwich, including being a regular for both their 2018/19 and 2020/21 promotion-winning campaigns and their 2019/20 and 2021/22 Premier League seasons.
The goalkeeper has also made 15 appearances for the Dutch national team, with his most famous being as a substitute just for the penalty shoot-out in a quarter final at the 2014 World Cup and saving two penalties as the Netherlands beat Costa Rica.
