Luton Town – The Great Nathan Jones Question
If anyone has not gotten around to watching the excellent Sky Sports documentary, about Luton Town, I urge you to do so.
Titled ‘The Fall and Rise of Luton Town’ it contains some wonderful footage, from the past thirty years, detailing just how our club slipped down the leagues and into non-league football before climbing back.
It has its poignant moments and, at times, brought a tear to my eye.
Naturally, it covers some controversial moments, especially the John Gurney era among others with his ‘Manager Idol’ moment brilliantly covered.
There are interviews with those who have shaped our future, including a very young Gary Sweet and Nick Owen.
It also gives Nathan Jones the opportunity to explain why he chose to leave Kenilworth Road, not once, but twice.
But, once the credits had rolled, I found myself asking a very pertinent question:
If Nathan Jones had stayed at Kenilworth Road, last season, would the Hatters have got promoted?
My view is that we would not have.
During the last weeks of Nathan’s tenure, I thought the football had gone stale and that something was lacking when it came to the team spirit.
The introduction of Rob Edwards galvanised the squad, lifted spirits and individual performances improved, benefiting the team structure.
Also, Edwards used the loan system wonderfully, bringing in Drameh and Nakamba, two players who played a huge part in our success.
But they are only my views, do you concur or beg to disagree?

And as for the documentary, if you have not watched it, do yourself a favour and tune in, it is brilliant!
