Thursday night’s game between the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks came down to the wire, and it gave the reigning NBA Clutch Player of the Year a chance to show why he deserves that title.

With just seconds to go, Jalen Brunson scored a dagger three-pointer that sealed the deal for the Knicks, putting the Pistons away after six games.

Following the game, Mikal Bridges spoke with ESPN about Brunson’s shot and how he knew it was going to happen.

“Doesn’t matter if he’s struggling. Doesn’t matter if he’s hooping. You can never tell,” said Bridges, who co-starred with Brunson in Game 6 with 25 points. “All I thought is: If he can get some separation, once he got separation, I knew it was curtains.”

Brunson was a superstar once again for his Knicks, posting 40 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

He has been sensational throughout this series, and now the Knicks are hoping to see him keep playing like this as they take on the Boston Celtics in the second round.

The Knicks were desperate not to face a Game 7 because they wanted as much time off their feet as possible.

They know the Celtics will be challenging, and they need each of their stars at 100 percent.

Brunson’s final shot allows them to have a few extra days off, time to plan for their next series.

As he has so many times in the past, Brunson played with pure confidence and aggression throughout the game.

When he posted that crucial three-pointer, fans could tell he thought it would go in.

It did, and now the Knicks are moving on while the Pistons’ impressive season has come to an end.

It was a hard-fought series from both teams and it could’ve went either way, as the last four games were decided by just nine points.

The Knicks stepped up in the all-important road game as they looked to avoid a Game 7, including Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby.

But just as he did all season, it was Clutch Player of the Year Award winner Jalen Brunson who stole the show in the final moments.

Brunson was forced to leave multiple games in this series with injuries, but each time, he returned in the fourth quarter to help propel his team to a win.

While he didn’t appear to suffer any new injury in Game 6, it’s hard to believe he’s at 100% physically.

Based on his Game 6 performance, you’d never be able to tell. He finished the game with a series-high 40 points, but it was the last three that were felt the most.

With the score tied at 113, Brunson executed a picture-perfect step-back three-pointer that sent Ausar Thompson stumbling in the other direction. Thompson was unable to recover in time to contest and could only watch as the ball found the bottom of the net.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau commented on the shot after the game.

“He’s at his best when his best is needed,” Thibodeau said. “He’s done it all year. That’s what makes him special.

Avoiding a Game 7 is crucial for the Knicks, especially if Brunson is dealing with an injury.

With the win, the Knicks advance to take on the Boston Celtics in Round 2. The Knicks haven’t had success against the NBA’s top teams this season, including the Celtics.

This season, they went 0-4 against the Celtics, so Knicks fans will be hoping for a pleasant change when they tip off Game 1 on Monday night.
