There’s a new quarterback on the Seattle Seahawks roster.
After stints with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, and Houston Roughnecks in the XFL, P.J. Walker is making a return trip to the city.
The Temple product never made it onto the roster of the Indianapolis Colts, where he began his career as an undrafted free agent. After taking a diversion to the XFL, he spent three seasons with the Panthers and, in 2023, joined the Browns.
Walker had a fantastic, if short-lived, tenure in the XFL in 2020; through five games, he led the league in passing, but the pandemic ended the season, and he was called back to the NFL.

Walker would realistically hope to surpass Sam Howell in the quarterback room with Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks, where Howell would compete to be Smith’s backup.
Walker has now made his home in Seattle, where he will sit behind Sam Howell and starting Geno Smith. Chevan Cordeiro was cut by the Seahawks earlier this year.
Walker is a vested veteran who will earn a base salary of $1.125 million in 2024. He is eligible for the veteran salary benefit because he is a vested veteran with four or more accrued seasons and because he signed a contract that provides him with less than $167,500 in bonuses and incentives in addition to the veteran minimum base salary. Thus, only $985K will be deducted from the Seahawks’ cap on salaries.
