Does this imply that Jameis Winston, the former quarterback, will be featured on Heisman House?
The news that USC running back Reggie Bush will reclaim his Heisman Trophy in 2025 stunned the college football world. Even so, it’s a fantastic accomplishment for the former Trojan. This is ChopChat, the sports talk site for Florida State.
The real problem is that, despite winning the 2013 Heisman Trophy, former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is still not mentioned in the Nissan Heisman House commercials.
In the 2013 season, Winston had an incredible Heisman Trophy campaign, helping the Seminoles win their first national championship since 1999. A native of Hueytown, he was one of the nation’s top signal-callers, completing 257 of his 384 passes (66.9%) for 4,057 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions.
In college football during the 2013 season, there was no more divisive figure than Jameis Winston. A few people (who are not fans) made fun of the Publix crab legs incident and the sexual accusations he faced.
Ultimately, Winston still had the last laugh after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him first overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is frequently cited for saying, “We ain’t leaving without a victory,” during his pregame speech during their crushing victory over Clemson in 2013.
Winston is an incredibly talented passer with a hilarious personality, despite not being included in the Nissan Heisman House (which I think he should be). While we’re talking about rewarding athletes with awards they deserve, let’s also give head football coach Bobby Bowden the wins he still deserves.
Nevertheless, as one of Florida State football’s legends who will live a lifetime in memory, this is a positive step toward Winston receiving the recognition he so richly deserves.
