The Luton defender is determined to improve. Town’s Premier League campaign is a’marathon’ rather than a sprint.
Despite the setback to the Hammers, the Danish centre half believes his team is improving.
Despite losing 2-1 to West Ham on Friday night, Town defender Mads Andersen insists the club’s Premier League season is a’marathon’ rather than a sprint.
The close defeat at Kenilworth Road, which was hosting its first top flight game in almost 30 years, sent the Hatters into the international break second bottom of the table and without a point from the first three games.
It wasn’t a significant problem for Andersen, who believed his team came close to scoring against the Hammers, saying: “There’s loads of positives I think, we kept them away from many chances, they were just very clinical on the ones they had.”We created a lot of scoring chances, and we did the basics better than we had in previous games, so there were a lot of positives.
“This isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon, and I’m sure you can see we’re getting better with each game.”
“The lads will keep going, we’ll keep working hard in training and learning from the games.”
After a promising first half hour in which Luton twice came near through Ross Barkley, the former Everton and Chelsea midfielder dragging both chances wide, David Moyes’ side began to demonstrate their superior skill.
Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma both had chances before the former scored the goal on 37 minutes, when he was left unguarded by Ryan Giles and Amari’i Bell, his header being good enough to defeat Thomas Kaminski.
imposing center half With five minutes remaining, Kurt Zouma scored from James Ward-Prowse’s corner, as the manner of both goals irritated Andersen, who added: “It’s so frustrating, and that’s something we’ve got to learn from.”
“We shouldn’t have conceded from a corner; we’d been dealing with corners so well all game.”You have to be really prepared, because in this league, they will punish you, which is a little upsetting.
“But we must also consider the positives; there are many good things, so we must continue to work hard, that’s all.”
Meanwhile, Andersen commented on Luton Town’s next game, a trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham, saying, “I want to keep going, but it’s good, we can look at all the games and everything we’ve got to improve on.”
“We’ll work hard on the training pitch and then be ready for the next game.”
