West Ham United transfer news as Edson Alvarez stance emerges with Ajax exit on cards
West Ham target and Edson Alvarez may reportedly push for an Ajax exit as he appears set to leave this summer, per De Telegraaf podcast.
The Dutch publication released the episode on July 14 claiming that he wants to join the Hammers and leave the Netherlands.
ExWHUemployee claims that West Ham are readying a formal offer of around £35million for the Mexico international.
Alvarez is stylistically very similar to Rice as he operates in that same deep-lying midfield position and is an excellent ball carrier.
He is press resistant and has a good range of passes – making him the ideal candidate to anchor the Hammers midfield.
Rice also began his career as a centre-back and so did Alvarez so they’ve got the positional awareness that’s needed while defending.
The 25-year-old still plays as a centre-back as well so in case of an injury crisis, he can always be deployed there and is better than the options the Hammers have.
Ideally, he appears to be signed as a midfielder and it remains to be seen if the Hammers end up going ahead with their bid.
They’ve now got the Declan Rice money and need to do everything they can to get in his replacements as soon as possible.
