According to Fichajes, Manchester United are highly interested in signing Rodrigo de Paul as they look to strengthen their midfielder. The Argentine midfielder is also likely to part ways with Atletico Madrid in the near future.

Rodrigo De Paul has seen success in the past few years

Impressed by his performances on the international stage with Argentine, Atletico Madrid decided to sign Rodrigo De Paul in the summer of 2021 from Udinese. In a short time, the midfielder became a mainstay in the lineup and a key performer.

De Paul is a versatile midfielder who can don any role in the middle of the park. He is better known for his defensive traits and doing the dirty work for the team. He also provides key passes and doesn’t shy away from taking shots whenever possible.

The Argentine featured in 48 games last season, netting four goals and providing six assists. He averaged 0.9 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, and 0.4 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

A successor of Casemiro?

Manchester United still lacks quality in the midfield despite having invested a high sum in recent times. They will have to fix the issue if they want to become a winning side. Hence, the club are now looking to get some more notable names.

The Red Devils have their eyes set on Rodrigo De Paul, who is a proven campaigner. He has ample experience and has been part of winning squads in big tournaments. He could be an ideal name to replace Casemiro, who is way past his prime.

The 30-year-old’s presence will allow other Manchester United players to play more freely. He can provide the defensive solidity and bring a physical presence in the midfield. However, it remains unclear whether he will be able to match the intensity of the Premier League.

De Paul’s contract with Atletico Madrid runs out in 2026 but he can make a way out in 2025. Though he will not be a cheap affair, the English giant have the resources to lure him away.

The Brazilian talent has been a decent contributor at the back as he averaged 1.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per 90 minutes in the Brasileirao. He was even careful when distributing possession from inside his half after making 91.9% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian top tier (stats via whoscored).

Reis is a product of Palmeiras’ academy and has done well to establish himself as an important member of their first team. The 18-year-old has scored two goals in 15 matches for the Brazilian club thus far across all competitions.
