Everton transfer news as Leicester ready late move to sign Tom Cannon

Leicester City are set to make a serious late move for Everton striker Tom Cannon and are willing to pay £5million to pip Middlesbrough to his signature in another “extraordinary” twist, according to Alan Nixon.

The newspaper journalist shared via his Patreon that both Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka are possible late departures from Leicester, meaning Cannon has emerged as a target to replace them.

Nixon shared that Middlesbrough had hoped to clinch a deal after moving fast to get ahead of both Sunderland and Preston North End who will still try for a deal, but Leicester’s money may be big enough to win the race.

A bidding war will be good for Everton

Cannon was initially expected to leave Goodison Park on loan, with Preston the most likely destination after the striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Deepdale, but Everton will be happy with the bidding war sparked by a late offer from Middlesbrough.

The Teeside club’s £4million bid seems to have sparked further interest in securing his signature, with multiple clubs now battling over the deal, which could see the price continue to rise in a great benefit to Everton amid looming Financial Fair Play issues.

Cannon is held in high regard at Goodison Park, and impressed suitors during his loan spell at Preston by scoring eight goals in 20 Championship appearances, but has struggled for game time despite Everton’s desperation for a new striker.

The Toffees’ move to sign Beto from Udinese put an end to any hopes Cannon may have held of getting a look into Sean Dyche’s first-team plans, particularly after the new man scored on his debut in the Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers.
