Red Sox Rumors: Boston Looking To Make This Kind Of Trade
Boston could benefit from some more depth..

he Red Sox are in a great spot with their roster as Opening Day approaches, but it never hurts to have a little extra depth.

That apparently is how Craig Breslow and company are looking at things as Boston works through the final weeks of spring training. In a column published Sunday, MassLive’s Sean McAdam revealed a certain move the Red Sox are interested in making as their time in Fort Myers, Fla., winds down.

“It’s not a major or critical need for now, but according to an industry source, the Red Sox have let other teams know that they’re in the market for additional outfield depth — especially the righthanded-hitting variety,” McAdam wrote.

As McAdam outlined, such a move would add security for Wilyer Abreu, who might not be ready for Opening Day after dealing with a gastrointestinal issue. Kristian Campbell hasn’t logged any work in right field and fellow top prospect Roman Anthony recently was among the Red Sox players affected by an illness that ravaged the clubhouse.

So, making an addition to the outfield group could be a prudent move for Boston as it deals with a few obstacles. If the Red Sox don’t find a deal, newcomer Trayce Thompson seemingly could be an early season depth option after staging an impressive spring.
