Tottenham are set to battle Chelsea for highly-rated 20-year-old

CaughtOffside have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Elye Wahi and are now set to challenge Chelsea for the Montpelier star’s signature.

Wahi is expected by many to be the next breakout attacking star from French football, with the pacy forward having scored 19 goals and provided six assists in 33 Ligue 1 games last season.

The 20-year-old has even been tagged by some as the ‘next Mbappe’ (Football.London), which is perhaps why it has emerged over the last few days that Tottenham are eyeing the youngster as a potential heir to Harry Kane (Foot Mercato).

Spurs battling Chelsea for Elye Wahi

According to CaughtOffside’s latest update, Tottenham now look set to battle their London rivals Chelsea for Wahi’s signature.

The report explains that the Blues want to sign the France Under-21 international and loan him out to Strasbourg for the season.

However, the Montpelier star is not thought to be happy with this idea, with the door thus being opened to other suitors.

The outlet claims that over the last few days, Tottenham have emerged as contenders for Wahi’s signature, with the striker’s price tag of €30m (£25.6m) said to be well within the Lilywhites’ budget.

As things stand, it appears as if Gift Orban is Tottenham’s top target to replace Kane. However, if Gent play hardball with the Nigerian and show no intention of lowering their demands, I would not be surprised if we see Spurs turn their attention to Wahi instead.
