Lakers Seek Knicks All-Star Trade Partner

The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in trading for Dejounte Murray, so the New York Knicks will face tough competition to acquire their All-Star target. Murray, who was traded from the San Antonio Spurs to the Atlanta Hawks, could have an effect on the Lakers or Knicks.

It could be argued that Los Angeles is currently in a much worse situation than New York, so the Lakers would benefit more from this deal. Murray would, nevertheless, enhance the Knicks’ already outstanding roster. On January 9, the day he became trade-eligible, Shams Charania of “Run It Back” on FanDuelTV reported that the Lakers are interested in signing Murray.

We have talked about the Lakers being suitors. I believe they are in need at that position. Furthermore, we’re still waiting to see how precisely his market develops, according to Charania.

This season, Los Angeles has sought to improve their roster, and given their current standing, they may have to overpay: Because of LeBron James’ advanced age, the Lakers are probably in one of their final seasons as a competitive team. They are not a championship roster in their current configuration.

Since acquiring OG Anunoby, the Knicks have won four straight games, indicating that they are in a strong position going forward. They can compete with teams like the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks, even though that trade may not have improved them to the same level. Winning a series won’t be simple, but if the Knicks perform well, they have the talent to succeed.

It’s been a difficult season for the Lakers. At 18-19, they are below.500 and have dropped three of their previous ten encounters. Most people anticipated that the Lakers would be among the top basketball teams because of the preseason media hype. Rather, they are competing for a Western Conference playoff berth.

Murray was being considered by the Lakers and Knicks, according to NBA insider Marc Stein’s January 5 report.

“On a Friday Bleacher Report livestream, my podcast partner Chris Haynes of Turner Sports mentioned that the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia could become [Dejounte] Murray’s suitors. Murray has also been linked to the Knicks more and more, according to Stein’s Substack newsletter.

The Lakers may need to improve their offer to beat the Knicks for the former All-Star, as both teams are expressing interest. It’s critical to keep in mind that the Knicks have superior draft pick assets.

For Murray, it’s difficult to predict who will win the race. The Knicks have more than enough to complete the deal if they wish to make one for him.

However, given their limited assets, it is unlikely that the Lakers will be aggressive and try to offer a better package. Murray may be moving in the upcoming weeks as the trade deadline draws near. After a disappointing two years for the Hawks, Atlanta has wanted to trade him, and given the interested teams, they could get a respectable return.
