Ja Morant does controversial new grenade celebration..

Ja Morant just cannot seem to stay away from integrating dangerous weapons into his on-court celebrations.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard caused quite a stir earlier this week when he debuted a celebration that resembled him throwing a grenade into the crowd during a road game against the Charlotte Hornets.

On Thursday, Morant’s new celebration was broadcast to a national audience during the Grizzlies’ prime-time clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. Morant tossed another imaginary grenade after sinking a pull-up three over Timberwolves forward Julius Randle to give his team a 27-26 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter.

Before the game, Morant claimed that his new celebration is “not what you think it is.” The Grizzlies star said that the move represented him taking his “words” and throwing them out into the world. The fake ear muffs were meant to represent him “blocking out the noise.” That’s quite the PR spin.

Controversial celebration aside, Morant was a monster during Thursday’s game. He finished with a team-high 36 points and 6 assists. But he was outdone by his Minnesota Timberwolves counterpart, Anthony Edwards. The T-Wolves guard tallied 44 points on just 19 shots to get Minnesota a crucial 141-125 victory in Memphis.
