“Thankfully, nobody was injured”: Maynard is unable to train following an early-morning vehicle accident.
Following his involvement in an automobile accident earlier in the day, Premiership Magpie Brayden Maynard did not participate in Collingwood’s training session on Monday.
Maynard was involved in a car accident on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway on Monday morning at around six in the morning, as was initially reported by 7 News Melbourne.
Following the collision, Maynard was not at training while Collingwood was gathering information about what happened.
The incident was confirmed by the Magpies on Monday night, but no injuries were reported.
The statement from the Magpies said, “Collingwood confirms Brayden Maynard was involved in a very minor car accident earlier this morning.”
Crucially, nobody was harmed. Brayden’s car only sustained minor exterior damage while exchanging contact information with the other driver.
Maynard had gone to the beach with some friends over the weekend.
The 27-year-old recently made his way back to full training following a shoulder reconstruction.
Maynard, who placed equal second in the team’s best and fairest count for the second time in three seasons, was a key player in the Magpies’ 2023 premiership campaign.
He was also at the center of the year’s biggest tribunal case, having been cleared of all charges related to his contact with Demons star Angus Brayshaw during the qualifying final, which resulted in a concussion.

RIP, YOUNG GUN SUN
Preseason injuries have dealt a blow to Gold Coast, as top draft pick Jed Walter will miss the start of the AFL season.
After breaking his collarbone during a training drill on Monday morning, club academy graduate Walter—who was selected with pick three in last year’s draft—will be out for up to eight weeks, the Suns confirmed on Monday night to foxfooty.com.au, citing AFL Media’s report.
This week, the 18-year-old will have surgery.
Even though Walter was selected as a key forward, there was speculation before the draft that his strong physique and sincere desire for the physicality of the game would have allowed him to contribute right away at the AFL level.
Up until Monday’s loss, Walter’s preseason and potential Round 1 selection push were off to a bright start.
Nonetheless, with Ben King, Levi Casboult, and Jack Lukosius on the roster, the Suns have good depth at the key positions.
Walter was selected by Gold Coast in the same draft as Ethan Read, Jake Rogers, Will Graham, and another graduate of the Suns academy.
AWAY FROM DEES, OLIVER CONTINUES ITS 2024 BUILD
Superstar Clayton Oliver of Melbourne, who is currently on a lengthy leave from the team, put in a great workout at Gosch’s Paddock on Monday away from teammates.
Oliver ran hard and finished with some light kicking, and a News Corp Australia photographer got some happy shots of him, according to the Herald Sun.
The same day, Oliver’s teammates from Melbourne participated in a club training session at Casey Fields.
Oliver was placed on extended leave from the Demons earlier this month. Oliver struggled with a hamstring injury the entire 2023 season before the team even considered trading for him.
Alan Richardson, general manager of AFL Performance for the Demons, stated that the team would let Oliver concentrate on his health.
“Clayton has been coping with personal problems. In order to handle these difficulties, Clayton has been collaborating closely with his personal medical team and receiving assistance from important club employees, Richardson stated earlier this month.
“The club is in complete support of Clayton taking this crucial break so that he can concentrate on these challenges.”

Upper North Colby McKercher, a draft pick from Melbourne, appears destined for an early AFL debut.
Since joining Arden St., McKercher, who was selected by the Kangaroos with Pick 2 in the previous draft, has had a noticeable effect.
When asked which young players had impressed him this summer by the club’s media team, Callum Coleman-Jones responded, “Colby’s caught my eye – I think he’s caught everyone’s eye.” He is very elegant, swift, nimble, and deft with his feet.
