An Overview of the Broncos Free Agency: Three Levels of RB Choices
After making large purchases in 2023, the Denver Broncos will probably exercise caution in free agency in 2024. The Broncos may miss the first round of free agency because of their present cap concerns, which force the team to take care of business first.
Fans of the Broncos should still familiarize themselves with the upcoming unrestricted free agents at each position, though. Over the upcoming weeks, we will look at the most notable free agents.
We’ll examine the top free agents at each position in each installment, followed by an analysis of the next best alternatives. After a few more well-known names, we’ll talk about who Denver is most likely to be able to pursue.
This article focuses on running backs; some big names have entered the free agent market. Does this imply the Broncos will try to add a running back?
Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Derrick Henry are the top three choices.
The franchise tag was placed on two running backs for 2023, and the third player’s contract expired. These are the three most notable names. There is no doubt that all three of the backs are capable players.
However, there are issues with all three of them. Barkley only averaged 3.9 yards per carry in 2023 and has a history of injuries. After carrying the ball 340 times in 2022, Jacobs’ yards per carry decreased to 3.5 in 2023. Henry will turn 30 in 2024, but he has been productive for four of the previous five seasons.
The Broncos are unlikely to make a move for any of these players. Though both players are talented, Henry might be more interested in joining a top playoff contender, and the Broncos may not be able to offer the other two what they want.
