“Should be on Sunderland’s radar” – A new endorsement for the former Swansea City and Nottingham Forest candidate

It was revealed on Monday afternoon that Michael Beale had departed Sunderland as manager after just 12 games in charge. Prior to Beale’s appointment, Mike Dodds served as the interim, and he will continue in that role through the end of the current campaign.

Sunderland intends to appoint a permanent manager in the summer as opposed to appointing someone like Beale, who wasn’t the team’s first choice.

TEAMtalk has connected former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper to the position. Oliver Glasner, an Austrian coach, was appointed after Roy Hodgson announced his resignation as Crystal Palace’s manager, though he was still a candidate for the position.

Football analyst Carlton Palmer feels that Cooper’s promotion of Forest from the Championship to the Premier League in the 2021–2022 season is a path that Sunderland should take.

Cooper is a good option for Sunderland, according to Cartlon Palmer
According to the former England international, Cooper ought to be among the candidates for Sunderland’s next manager.

“I think Steve Cooper did a fantastic job there, but Nottingham Forest dismissed him,” he said. He moved them up the Championship ladder and earned them a promotion from where they were when he took over, at the bottom of the ranking.

“Sunderland should be keeping an eye on him. He’s an excellent manager. He has demonstrated that he can function with the team that was present and with very little money.

“Persuading someone to accept the position is challenging due to the circumstances at Sunderland. Yes, Mick Beale accepted the position because, in my opinion, he had to in order to regain his credibility following a dismal run at

However, the manager considering his next move—whether it’s Steve Cooper, Graham Potter, or Will Still—will examine this and ask themselves, “Can I successfully apply my management techniques within this football club? In the event that they fail, it will be difficult for them to find employment elsewhere.

Steve Cooper will investigate. He does indeed want to return to football. However, he must be given the proper chance to put his talents to use if he is to succeed.”

Steve Cooper’s record for championships
The former Forest manager enjoys a very strong reputation in the second division of English football, in contrast to Beale, who had very little experience managing in the Championship prior to taking over as the head coach at the Stadium of Light.

The Welshman started working for his previous team in September 2021. They ranked utterly last in the Championship. Four points was all they had after eight games. They were the best team in the league from the moment the 44-year-old took over until the end of the season; they were even superior to Fulham, who finished with 90 points and had Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored 43 goals in a single season.

According to Sofascore, the Welshman also managed Swansea City for two seasons (2019–20 and 2020–21), during which he averaged 1.61 points per game; Tony Mowbray, on the other hand, only managed 1.46 points per game during his time at Sunderland.

All the information suggests that he would be a fantastic addition to the Black Cats, or at the very least, someone they should seriously consider.
