Stoke City transfer news as Alex Neil seals a late deadline day deal for Colchester United defender

Stoke City completed a frantic transfer window by signing Colchester United defender Junior Tchamadeu for an unknown amount.

After a summer of speculation about his future, the 19-year-old, who was voted League Two young player of the year last season, has signed a four-year contract at the bet365 Stadium.

He is the third deadline-day signing, following Lynden Gooch and Sead Hakabanovi, and his entrance followed the departure of left-back Josh Tymon to Swansea.

“Junior is an exciting prospect who possesses all of the physical and technical attributes to enjoy a successful career in the game,” stated technical director Ricky Martin.

“He is a player we have been interested in for some time, and we are delighted to have completed the transaction.”

“To have consistently produced high-quality performances at such a young age demonstrates tremendous potential.”

“We are excited to help him achieve that here at Stoke, and we wish him the best of luck in his future with the club.”

Tchamadeu scored five goals and assisted on two more for Colchester last season in 41 games.

He is convinced that he has arrived at the right spot for his growth.

“I’ve been eager to complete the move to Stoke City and begin the next chapter in my career since I first learned of the interest,” he stated.

“It’s an exciting time for me to join and develop my game with an ambitious Championship club.”

“I believe that with my pace, power, and energy, the high-intensity, front-foot football that the team plays will suit my game perfectly.”
