Texas Edge Billy Walton logs onto the portal for transfers.
The NCAA Transfer Portal will be accessed by Texas football redshirt freshman edge rusher Billy Walton, according to a social media report on April 15 by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Texas football EDGE in its second year Billy Walton logs onto the portal for transfers.
Walton, an edge rusher who stands six feet three and weighs 229 pounds, has four years left to be eligible.
Walton is the third former player for the Longhorns to declare their plan to use the spring transfer portal. On April 16, shortly after midnight, the underclassmen spring portal window opens.
The other two former Longhorns players, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Payton Kirkland and redshirt freshman linebacker S’Maje Burrell, entered the portal as the spring window drew near.
Walton’s 2023 true freshman season included two games where he played defensive snaps. According to PFF, he played three defensive snaps in Texas’s victory over the Wyoming Cowboys in Week 3 at home and twelve defensive snaps in the team’s victory over the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 opener away.
In the two games he participated in last season, Walton did not record any stats.
Walton, a three-star EDGE recruit in the 2023 class who attended South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas, signed a contract with the Longhorns. He was rated as the nation’s No. 506 prospect.
In less than a day, Texas will have just 86 scholarship players remaining before the spring portal window opens on April 16. Not counting any possible portal targets Texas looks at to fill needs on the roster this spring, that puts the Longhorns one player over the scholarship cap.
