Football player Tavorian Copeland of Virginia Tech logs onto the NCAA transfer portal
An additional football player from Virginia Tech has logged into the NCAA transfer portal. Tavorian Copeland, a redshirt freshman linebacker, is the most recent Hokie to log in.
The 6-foot-3, 192-pound Copeland redshirted the previous season after being a three-star signee in the Hokies’ 2023 recruiting class. At Appomattox County High in Appomattox, he participated in high school football. Copeland was a two-time VHSL Class 2 All-State selection and won two state championships at Appomattox.
Following quarterback Dylan Wittke, defensive end Antonio Cotman, running back Tralon Mitchell, and offensive lineman Gabe Arena, Copeland is the fifth player to log onto the portal since it launched last week. They were all from the recruiting class of 2023.
How do we feel about the five students from the 2023 class who have accessed the portal thus far? During that cycle, Tech signed 27 high school players, but no team ever has a 100% hit rate. If players are unable to have an early impact on the depth chart, you will probably see more cases of them moving on with the transfer portal.
The Hokies currently have 82 or 83 scholarships, which means there are two or three spots that need to be filled via the portal.
We hope Tavorian Copeland has the best possible luck on his upcoming tour.
