Nottingham Forest are ready to show their ambition with a swoop for Wolves star Matheus Cunha, sources have told Football Insider.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could break their transfer record to sign the Brazil international – if they secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Forest currently sit third in the Premier League table and have a seven-point buffer to sixth-place Newcastle with just weeks remaining of the season.

However, the Midlands giants will face stiff competition for Cunha’s signature in the summer transfer window – with the forward available via his £62.5million release clause.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (1 April) that Liverpool are considering Cunha as a potential Darwin Nunez replacement.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are still keen on the forward – having previously explored a deal during Edu Gaspar’s tenure as sporting director.Cunha has announced publicly that he wants to move on from Wolves this summer with Vitor Pereira’s side close to securing Premier League survival.

The Brazil international has hit 15 goals in 29 games across all competitions but is currently serving a suspension after being red-carded in the FA Cup clash with Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Monday (31 March) that Nottingham Forest are “desperate” to tie Espirito Santo down to a long-term deal as he nears the final year of his contract.

The 51-year-old Portuguese signed a two-and-a-half-year deal upon replacing the sacked Steve Cooper in December 2023.

Sources have told Football Insider that Evangelos Marinakis and the Forest board are now doing everything they can to sign him up to a longer-term agreement.
