Southampton confirm the appointment of an ex-Sunderland coach, while the Cats continue to hunt for a replacement.
Sunderland are still looking for a new under-18s head coach following Adam Asghar’s departure to Southampton.
Southampton have confirmed the appointment of former Sunderland under-21s manager Adam Asghar.
Asghar joined Sunderland from Dundee United, where he was a first-team coach, in October last year as the club’s under-18s lead coach.
Last month, it was revealed that the 29-year-old will be departing Wearside to take up a new post at Southampton, with Sunderland now looking for Asghar’s replacement.
Southampton confirmed in a club statement that “Adam Asghar will be taking the role of under-21s head coach, following the departure of Dave Horseman and Louis Carey in the summer, with the Scotsman arriving after spending the last year as under-18s lead coach at Sunderland, with the Scotsman arriving after spending the last year as under-18s lead coach at Sunderland.”
During his stint at Sunderland, Asghar led the under-18s to second place in the Northern division of the 10-team Under-18s Premier League, trailing only Manchester City.
