Frank Lampard ready to spend £5m to land Coventry City target he’s just had a great season in Championship…

Coventry City may have missed out on promotion this season, but the Sky Blues are wasting no time in getting business done this summer.

After parting ways with fan-favourite manager Mark Robins last November, Coventry were sitting in 17th place in the Championship table and looked set for a rough ride this season.

However, the arrival of Frank Lampard changed everything for the better, and an impressive run of form in the second half of the campaign paved the way for an assault on the Championship play-offs.

Coventry lost out to Sunderland in the semi-finals last week, with a dramatic winner from Dan Ballard killing their dreams for this year.

But, it seems the Sky Blues are ready to come back stronger next season.

Coventry City want Kaine Kesler-Hayden
As per a report from Alan Nixon on Patreon, Coventry are already eyeing up a solid move in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa’s Kaine Kesler-Hayden on their radar.

It is thought Coventry are “leading the race” for the 22-year-old, who is just coming off the back of an impressive loan spell with Preston North End.

Coventry may have to pay £5m plus add-ons for the young right-back. It is suggested Kesler-Hayden himself appears to be ready to move on from his boyhood club after struggling to break through at Villa Park and having five loan spells under his belt already.

Kesler-Hayden made 51 appearances in all competitions for Preston this year, scoring two goals and registering three assists across over 4,000 minutes of action.

It could be a summer of mass change for Coventry City
The arrival of Kesler-Hayden, or indeed any new signing, would be just the boost Coventry City need right now after suffering play-offs heartbreak.

Meanwhile, there is talk of Frank Lampard heading to Southampton to fill the managerial vacancy there, which would be a huge blow after the progress made in the last few months.

If Lampard does stay, he may have to replace Haji Wright, who is wanted by Leicester and Ipswich this summer.

He’s not the only player to have caught the eye. Milan van Ewijk is also attracting interest from elsewhere, while Jack Rudoni’s displays will surely lead to some attention, too.

Coventry City told how to avoid losing one of the ‘best’ in the Championship after ‘brilliant’ season.

Coventry City have been sent some advice over one of their stars after their Championship status was confirmed for another campaign.

The Sky Blues had an excellent second half of the season, which saw them reach the Championship play-off semi-finals.

However, despite taking the second leg to extra time, Coventry City lost to Sunderland, who will now meet Sheffield United in the final on May 24.

We revealed Lampard and Southampton links some time ago, with a further update from EFL Analysis this week confirming the Coventry boss is quite keen to move to St Mary’s.

But it’s not just Lampard who could be departing the CBS Arena in the coming months.

Milan van Ewijk made a mistake in the play-offs earlier this month, handing Sunderland a late winner in the first-leg tie.

Despite that error, the defender still had a good season and has been receiving transfer interest.

Now, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has been discussing the right-back, who he called one of the ‘best’ and said had a ‘brilliant’ season.

On Coventry keeping hold of Van Ewijk and rumours of a move, Goodman said the Blues ‘would need to sell him that project’.

He told Football League World: “Milan van Ewijk has been brilliant since arriving at Coventry City.

“Still only 24 years old, right up there with the best right-backs in the Championship this season – obviously the mistake that he made in the first leg against Sunderland was heartbreaking for him and heartbreaking for Coventry City, but it shouldn’t define what a brilliant season he’s had.

“Can they keep him? I think Coventry will be challenging at the top of the Championship next season, so if there is interest in him, then they would need to sell him that project, and it could be that he may feel he owes them.”
